Challenge: PerNoEdMo: Day 5: Back to the Beginning

Remember, remember the 5th of November.

My roommate and I both have off today.  My roommate is NaNoWriMoing beside me as we sit together in the living room listening to Pandora.  Her clacking fingers are inspiring.  We have grand plans of household chores and a properly prepared dinner and dessert today, but now we’ve been absorbed by the NaNo rush.  I begin today on page 319 of 412.

I just moved a conversation to page 315, so now I have to reread that section again.

I think I’ve reached the point in the novel that I’ve feared and longed for:  Here is where I cut ALL THE THINGS.  My protagonist’s lover’s backstory?  Unnecessary.  I also have all  the changes to the culture that I made earlier in this year in my head that I have not made in the novel yet.  I think it’s time to go make those changes.

I made some of these changes.  I had to go all the way back to page 16 to make the first of the changes to the plot.  I’ve gone through to page 200, making the changes.  I am involved in a weekly Google hangout with college friends now, and I was trying to edit and hangout at the same time.  I’ve given up for the night.  I’m beginning to get sleepy, and I’m not really concentrating very hard on my work.

The document is down to 410 pages.

About Kathryn

My love of books has been carefully cultivated by the adults who raised me and also by the friends who love to share. My life has led me down long library shelves, to online forums, fanfiction sites, the front of a lecture hall, and into the desks of college classrooms. With an English degree and a couple master’s classes in Children’s Literature, I am now a bookseller for Barnes & Noble. I have been an editor for Wizarding Life Networks (the people who brought you Wizarding Life, Panem October, and MyHogwarts now HogwartsIsHere).
